Overview
The ECLIPSE Ni Series represents Nikon’s flagship line of upright research microscopes, engineered for both high optical performance and broad system flexibility. Utilizing Nikon’s CFI60 (and in some cases CFI75) infinity-corrected optics, these microscopes deliver sharp, high-contrast imaging across brightfield, DIC, phase contrast, polarization, and fluorescence modalities. Their modular “stratum” architecture supports simultaneous integration of multiple optical paths—such as dual fluorescence cube turrets—giving users the freedom to build custom systems tailored to their experimental workflows.
Depending on the model, you can choose between fully motorized control, compact design, and manual operation, making the Ni Series suitable for a wide spectrum of applications—from advanced mechanized confocal setups to routine pathology or teaching labs.
Ni-E (Focusing Stage Type)
The Ni-E (focusing stage type) is a fully motorized upright microscope optimized for automated, high-precision research workflows. Its motorized Z-focus is implemented via a stage that moves up and down, enabling fine control with a linear encoder (resolution of 0.025 µm). All microscope parameters — including condenser position, diaphragm, and ND filter – can automatically adjust when the objective is switched, so optimal imaging settings are recalled and reproduced.
This configuration is especially well-suited for labs using confocal systems or other imaging devices that require precise, repeatable Z-series acquisition. A built-in image-capture button enables quick snapshot of your sample without taking your eye off the eyepiece.
Ni-E (Focusing Nosepiece Type)
The Ni-E (focusing nosepiece type) provides the same high level of motorized automation as the stage type, but the Z-focus mechanism is integrated into the nosepiece instead. This design is particularly useful for applications with a fixed sample stage (e.g., in vivo imaging) where the stage must remain stable, and focusing is more convenient at the nosepiece.
Like the stage-type Ni-E, this model supports automated adjustment of key optical elements when switching objectives, and is compatible with confocal systems and other advanced setups.
